We love to present a website, which is made for the general public, not for webmasters and computer nerds. Therefore there are no gimmicks on this site like flash, films, audiovisuals and downloadheavy pictures in 360°. We coded the site in umpteen hours to an exact W3-Council standard. Most of our pages can proudly show the two quality seals of compliance: «CSS valid» and «HTML valid»! These techniques help to put the website in most search engines near the top on all common searches. We have also coded all logos and most pictures with a title-tag, which allows the visitor to immediately see what each graphic contains. This kind of code is also very useful for people with visual problems, they can either use a screen reader or enlarge the letters (try the latter in your browser with the keys "ctrl and +", return with "ctrl and -". (This feature does not work in Microsoft's Internet Explorer!) For all of this reasons have we constructed most pages by pure hand-coding.

8 Regions, 6 Categories

The vast bulk of information is listed in 8 regions: Brodick, Lamlash, Whiting Bay, Southend (Kilmory, Kildonan, Sliddery), Blackwaterfoot and Shiskine, the Westcoast (Machrie to Pirnmill),the Northend (Lochranza and Catacol) and Sannox and Corrie. Each of these areas is then divided into 6 categories: serviced accommodation, non-serviced accommodation (self catering, camping, hostels, bulk accommodation), food and drink (restaurants, pubs, tearooms, take-aways), shops, visitor services and visitor attractions.

This enables the visitors – your potential customers – to find what they look for and to make a learned decision to come to Arran for their holiday. It shows how much there is to see and to do in "Scotland in Miniature".

Request Service for Accommodation

An unique service (for our clients with a running contract only), which is very much liked by the users. It saves time and money and in the era of electronic communication it works extremly quick. People who want to come to Arran can click on each page on the logo "Request Form". A web form opens where they can enter their requirements. Once completed, the form is emailed to us and we then forward each request any provider matching the criteria. Each recipient can answer directly to the enquirer, offering his services.

Special Pages

We continue to keep some older pages running alongside. They will be adopted to the new standard next winter. They are mainly pages with general information, and one page with some information about businesses who work all over the Island. As these pages will be looking different in future, we do not accept any more advertising for them. But watch this place for any future announcement of development.

Free Entries

As described, there is a free entry for every service or company based on the Isle of Arran which contributes something for a great guest experience. It usually consists of name, address, phone number and opening times. Shops additionally get a short description of what they sell.

Display Entries

To make your free entry more prominent, you have a choice of display entries. See the page «Tariff and examples» for what is on offer. You can be more prominently displayed from as little as £55 per calender year for an «enhanced entry» giving you a larger presentation, a better position and additional to the phone number your Email- and Web-address in form of a hyperlink.

One step further goes the picture entry with one picture and some text, followed by entries with more pictures and text. All those pictures can be further enhanced with what the trade calls a "lightbox": One click on the marked picture brings up a large superimposed and quite transparent panel containing the big picture and extra space for an additional 100 words of sales talk. This technique demands "Java-script enabled" in the various browsers. Most users have that feature turned on, contrary to the automatic playing of flash, picture shows, audios, and videos.
